Largest Solar PV System In CI Installed

The Largest Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System in the Channel Islands has been installed and is ready to begin generating electricity.

The move comes following a join-operation by Guernsey Electricity and Guernsey Post to generate sustainable electricity to power the postal services fleet of delivery vehicles.

The two states companies are on track to complete the project which is fitted to the roof of the postal headquarters.

The project comes following Guernsey Post's conversion of its delivery fleet from Diesel to Electric vehicles. However Chief Executive of GE, Alan Bates, told Island FM that GP CEO, Boley Smillie, still believed that powering the electric fleet through an unsustainable force meant the service could be strive to be even more environmentally friendly yet.

As a result the collaboration project was born, and it was decided a large Solar PV system would be the answer.

The solar array is due to be operational and powering GP vehicles by October.
