Justice Policy In Guernsey Under The Microscope

Justice Policy has been identified as one of the States' policy priorities.

The Committee for Home Affairs will be submitting a report to the States of Deliberation by the end of this year for consideration in early 2020 - outlining proposals for future policy.

The Committee for Home Affairs, in partnership with the P&R Committee, have appointed Gemma Buckland, Director of UK consultancy service 'Do It Justice', to lead an independent review into the islands justice policy.

Ms Buckland, an experienced policy analyst and Criminologist, until recently worked at the UK Justice Committee.

She will bring a wealth of working experience into independent reviews such as this, that aims to build on the results of the Committee for Home Affairs’ Crime & Justice Survey. The Review of Justice Policy will focus on the core criminal justice institutions and their functions.

The aim of this project is not, however, to undermine the work of other agencies and voluntary organisations that work closely with the island's Justice process.

The survey opened yesterday and closes on Friday the 25th of October - you can find it on www.gov.gg or the States of Guernsey social media pages.

It's also available in paper format - on request - by calling the Office for Home Affairs on 717553.
