Jailed For Attempted People Trafficking

An Albanian man is beginning a 3 years, 9 month prison sentence for trying to use Guernsey as a staging post to smuggle three fellow nationals into Britain.

Border staff at St Peter Port harbour stopped the three Albanians from boarding the Condor to the UK in late July 2023.

They were searched and arrested as it was suspected they'd entered Guernsey illegally.

They were then returned to France, from where they'd left for Guernsey by private boat.

The mastermind behind their undercover entry into the island was 25 year old Driminad Vuka. He was arrested soon after the three men were stopped, as it was suspected he'd arranged the transit.

He was sentenced by the Royal Court to 3 years and 9 months in prison, with a recommendation that he be deported.

Border staff say it shows that 'this was a co-ordinated, unlawful attempt to move foreign nationals into the UK through the Bailiwick, and demonstrates that Guernsey is not immune to the risks posed by organised crime and illegal migration.'
