Guernsey FC get ready to play last game at Footes Lane

After 11 years, and 269 games, GFC will bid farewell to Footes Lane - where the club was formed.

On Saturday (15 March) the Green Lions will play their final game at Footes Lane.

They will take on Ascot United with a 2pm kick off, as they fight to avoid relegation.

GFC Director Nic Legg hopes a huge crowd will come out and support the men.

"There will be a lot of emotion remembering all the great times that we have seen at Footes Lane, and let's not forget that we had some difficult times down there as well, some unfortunate injuries and awful defeats that have been hard to take.

"But for the last decade that has been our home."

He says there have been many memorable occasions.

"People will never forget the Spennymoor game at Footes Lane - the pitch was in a right state, the team was being chartered over, and there were over 4,000 people that paid to come through the gate.

"So we had to make sure the game was on, so we actually used a helicopter to dry the pitch,  and it made Sky Sports news."

"There have been many fantastic goals over the years. I I was to pick one recently, captain Matt Loaring scoring in the 97th minute against Sutton Common Rovers was absolutely fantastic.

"It was pouring down with rain and a game that we really needed to win.

"If we stay up this season that that goal might be the one that changed our fortune."
