GROW's Café Opens

The Coutanchez site is ready to welcome café customers.

GROW is a disability hub, that helps islanders with learning difficulties gain employability skills.

For the past 2 months, the crew has been working with Chef James Ferguson in the kitchen, to learn culinary skills.

But from today (6 February) they will begin to get real-life hospitality experience in their training café.

Training and Development Manager Rich Portsmouth hopes islanders will come and fill the 20 seats:

"You can expect good food and good coffee, but patience is key, it is a training facility after all.

We're not here to get as many people through the door as possible, but to give the crew the best opportunities as possible."

Mr Portsmouth says the crew has enjoyed the experience so far:

"The hope is really extensive and everyone is really excited.

I think it's super important our crew learn a lot of different skills, such as hospitality, because that's where there are gaps in the employability market are.

This is a hundred percent to make them more employable."

The training café will open part-time:

Tuesdays 12.30 – 3.30pm

Wednesdays 10 – 1130am and 12.30 – 3.30pm

Thursdays 10 – 11.30am
