The iconic piers at La Salerie are undergoing extensive repairs when tides allow.
A mass of scaffolding covers the wall and the both piers at La Salerie.
States' Infrastructure Officer, Marco Tersigni, says work is progressing well, despite it having to stop for each daytime high tide:
“We proactively carry out routine maintenance to protect and improve our natural and man made coastal infrastructure in priority order.
Works to repoint both piers at Salerie and carry out masonry repairs began at the end of October and are due to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.”
Maintenance on the sea walls at Belle Greve has been ongoing for several years.
The area currently being repaired was once a gun battery to protect Guernsey against a potential French invasion.
At one time, houses also sat on the seaside opposite the pier and Salter Street.
