Emergency Helicopter To Be Parked At Port Soif

A helicopter for emergency airlifts will be parked at Port Soif overnight from 24 April to 1 May while the airport is closed for maintenance.

Both Guernsey and Alderney airports will close overnight this month for maintenance, which is why an air ambulance contingency is being put in place.

Alderney's closure begins tonight (18 April) and runs until 26 April so that the runway can be repaired.

The surface there is ageing and has cracked a number of times over the years. In December, the States of Guernsey agreed to fully upgrade Alderney Airport at a cost of £24M.

The emergency helicopter will use either the Butes or Braye Common to land, depending on the weather conditions.

Guernsey Airport will close overnight from 24 April for a week, so that work can be carried out on the runway lights.

During this time, a helicopter will be based at Port Soif car park on the west coast, between 8pm and 7am.

The area will be closed off and the aircraft will be protected by security staff.

People are being asked not to go near any these areas while they're being used.
