St Peter Port's Lifeboat was in action yesterday afternoon (10 October) rescuing a stricken yacht with 6 people onboard.
Guernsey's Coastguard received a phone call from the French Coastguard at 3:30pm, reporting that a 44-foot French-flagged sailing vessel had lost its mast.
The crew had lost its radio equipment and had only been able to contact French authorities by telephone.
Positioned 3 miles north of Herm, the vessel was in danger of drifting into rocks due to the wind and tide.
25 minutes later the Spirit of Guernsey launched and headed north at speed to reach the vessel before it grounded.
The team caught up to the yacht at 4:10pm.
A rope was connected to tow the yacht safely into St Peter Port Harbour shortly after 5:45pm.
Marina Staff then assisted in manoeuvring the vessel onto one of the visitor pontoons.
