Covid-19 Update 13 March: Social Distancing

We're being asked to consider further measures to reduce contact with other people to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the community.

The measures, known as Social Distancing, are being suggested initially for travel and public events.

Director of Public Health Dr Nicola Brink says that as we start to see more cases of Covid-19 in the UK and more widespread community transmission of the virus around the world, limiting the amount of contact people have with each other we can slow down the spread of the infection.

'Social distancing measures will contain the spread of Covid-19 and protect our community and enable us to continue to deliver our essential public services,' said Dr Brink.

'By limiting the amount of contact people have with each other, we can slow down the spread of the infection.

'Putting out advice of this nature is not taken lightly as we are aware of the significant impact this can have on peoples' lives.

'Islanders working with us by considering avoiding all non-essential travel and taking social distancing measures will help us push back the impact of Covid-19 will have in the Bailiwick.'
