Campaign launches to inspire Guernsey women to stand for 2025 election

With just eight months left before Guernsey goes to the polls, Women in Public Life have launched #WomenStandGsy.

The social media campaign features video interviews with three current female deputies.

Sue Aldwell, Tina Bury and Sasha Kazantseva-Miller explain why they stood for election, what they’ve achieved and why they would recommend the role.

Women in Public Life say the campaign hopes to address the assembly's current gender ratio - with only eight women standing alongside 30 men.

Charity Chair, Shelaine Green, explains why representation is important.

"Yes, your skills are important in decision-making, but you also bring your life experience and your personal values to the table – that's why representation is so important.

If a woman stands for election, she has just as much chance of success as a man.

Guernsey simply needs more women to put themselves forward in the first place, and our aim is to encourage that."

The support group is also offering prospective female deputies help to understand the election process, current issues and how to plan a campaign.
