Markets were always going to respond to that but they are also battling with another problem: the lack of certainty when it comes to Trump.

China has already retaliated and Europe has indicated it will go further.
That will compound the problems for the global economy and undoubtedly send shivers through the markets.
Much is yet to be determined, but if there's one thing markets hate, it's uncertainty.
