Les Aix is a stunningly charming Jersey granite house dating back to the 12th century, surrounded by extensive grounds and home to painting artist Ariel Whatmore. Ariel will be giving an art talk during the afternoon.
The driveway lined with oaks and underplanted with bulbs and wildflowers provides a delightfully informal approach to this beautiful rural property in the heart of the Island.
The garden surrounding the house has been sectioned into rooms evoking changes in mood. The grey garden in the courtyard, the white garden flanking the west of the house and the red and foliage border at the rear. The magnificent Maze of nearly a thousand box plants was grown from cuttings by the owner who is a true plantswoman. It symbolise an artist’s palette containing five small circular gardens of different colours to represent the paint and an old Jersey cider press where the artists thumb would be holding the palette. Carefully selected climbing roses adorn the house facade where cream teas (£5.50) are served on the front lawns by our committee and loyal volunteers.
All proceeds to local charity JAYF, helping to support Jersey's young homeless people
